With these “Magic Sound Tubes’ we can make a variety of weird scary sounds. Investigate how pitch changes as you swing them and even investigate your heart beat!

The basic idea here with these is the basics that were used in ancient musical instruments by the Australian Aboriginals called a Bull Roarer.

How is that? Learning science, sound, music and history of a culture in one….. just Magical!

Remember

1. Watch out for people and breakable objects when you are swinging the tubes around. (Especially, Grandma’s vase!!)

 

Hold the tube in your hand and swing it around your head in a steady motion. You should hear a sound being made.

Now increase the speed of rotation around in the air. Does the sound go up or down?

Try placing a bag over one and. Does this affect the sound? How?
