The Crazy OOSH Bootcamp  Series™ has been specifically designed for OOSH providers who want to create FUN, unique science experiences for their children that emphasize learning through play, discovery which is entangled with amazement!

We have designed them to be MORE specific, more hands-on and more FUN. Just like the famous quote from Confucius 

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

the experiences during the Bootcamp professional learning days are unlike others because:

• They are specifically linked to the National Quality Framework for easy placement and referencing in your programs.
• There is minimal time just sitting and listening to speakers for hours. We speak and then do, do, do! 
• There is MAXIMUM hands-on learning.  Just like your kids, we get you involved in the learning process. We (like all teachers) stimulate long term memory through the use of all three main learning modalities; Aural, Visual and Kinesthetic.
• The material is ‘kid-tested’ in REAL learning environments from an experienced 19yr teacher AND linked to the National Quality Framework by experienced teachers and consultants in Early Childhood Education.
• Participants get a ‘Bag of Science Tools’ to take home (help you integrate your new skills in the classroom) as well as a resource book to support the material you learn during the Bootcamp.

After attending and participating in the Bootcamp workshops:

– you will have  more confidence to integrate science experiences into your centre and really ignite the kids inner passion for discovery. 

– you will be able to make learning meaningful to their world through the seamless integration of science content, activities and real life connections.

The Location

The location changes, but generally is an OOSH service location or Hall with SPACE. Why? Well space is needed to accommodate the highly interactive activities and not to mention that the OOSH location really makes the learning meaningful.

We have a variety of planned OOSH Bootcamps in 2015, most of which have been organised by an OOSH wanting to provide high quality PL for their staff and surrounding centres. 

Workshops run from 10AM through to 1PM on a Saturday at the moment, BUT are planned for week days in the later half of 2016 which enables you to get the best PL around while still having time to go home and do more exciting science stuff with your own family or centre.

The OOSH centre organising the Bootcamp experience get to have their staff at the presenting centre attend the PL workshop for FREE.

The Instructor

The Crazy Scientist (Darin Carr) is a Science Teacher with a difference! His 19 years in education coupled with his passion to make learning science a Magical experience that you will NEVER forget is what sets The Crazy Scientist® apart from the rest.Although he earned his credentials formally as a Science Teacher, Learning Theory presenter at the Focus On Learning Conference, Science facilitator at Taronga Zoo, Bicentennial Educational Centre and more, he is a BIG kid at heart. His unique and infectious teaching methods have enthused children and adults across Sydney as he teaches them how to learn science while shooting monkeys across the room, cooking up the most disgusting batch of vomit slime or placing kids inside giant bubbles.

The original Crazy Scientist (known by his scientific name: Darin Carr) may be unconventional in his teaching methods, but that is what makes the workshops and experiences so much FUN, memorable and…… Magical.

Darin’s formal training in current learning methodologies, Gifted and Talented qualifications coupled with his 19yrs teaching across K-12 and beyond have enabled him to design unique toys and learning devices that engage children into learning and ignite their ‘inner fire’ to explore their learning into the future. He really knows how to make common experiences into unforgettable learning opportunities that are just magical!

This is the introductory workshop into how The Crazy Scientist^® magically incorporates unique and crazy science into everyday experiences to teach science concepts while simultaneously creating an unforgettable experience.

This workshop opens you up to various science concepts and teaches you how to perform them, the science behind them, management strategies, risk assessment information on equipment / chemicals etc.

You will use your bag of science goodies (worth $30) to explore science concepts in many areas which may be from (depending on bag):

– Air                  – Colour                   – Light                  – Chemistry                    – Pressure

– Sound            – Motion                   – Force                – States of Matter           and      MORE!

You will be amazed how easy it is to integrate science and that ONE demonstration or activity can be used to explain MANY areas of science!

There are currently FOUR workshops in the series. 

This workshop is for those who have completed the intro Science workshop. The teaching methodology has been covered and now is the time to REALLY go Crazy with lots of science experiments.

In this workshop participants will learn how to really enhance the demonstrations, experiments to higher levels and cater for the older children and those who are on the G&T spectrum. Learn how to incorporate the Scientific Method into experiments and the very hard to understand ‘The Control’ concept.

Participants see and experience how project based learning, scientific inquiry based methodologies can be used easily to enhance you programs while weaving those into science activities that are FUN and engaging.

This workshop is even MORE powerful in that the participants get to control the areas of science. They send in their preferred science areas of interest, and The Crazy Scientist^®  focuses on those areas with the hands-on experiments and activities.

That way, your centres focus and interests are customised in the Professor’s workshop to enhance your experience. (Forget generic descriptions and experiences, TCS customises them for you and your kids)

In the Physics Workshop, the mysteries of physics are unveiled with flare and theatrics to inspire you to incorporate physics concepts into your programs with ease and competence.

Connect the many physics areas in your program with real life examples and links using the amazing demonstrations and activities within this workshop. As usual, you will get a  ‘Tool-box’ gift bag (worth $60-$80) to explore, learn and review at home.

In the Chemistry Workshop, the mysteries of chemistry are unveiled with flare and theatrics to inspire you to incorporate chemical concepts into your programs with ease and competence.

Connect the many chemistry areas in your program with real life examples and links using the amazing chemical demonstrations and activities within this workshop. As usual, you will get a chemical ‘Tool-box’ gift bag (worth $40) to explore, learn and review at home.

Payment by cheque or purchase order

If you are paying by cheque, please let us know if the billing address is different from your centre address. If you are paying by purchase order, please email a copy of your registration with your purchase order. An invoice will be sent to the centre address you provide unless otherwise noted on your purchase order. Payment must be received, in full, at least 6 weeks prior to the workshop.

Payment Terms

To attend the Bootcamp we must receive payment, in full, six weeks prior to the date of the Bootcamp.

Refund Information

To receive a full refund, cancellation must be made 6 weeks prior to the event. Any cancellation made after the 6-week deadline will only be eligible for a 50% refund.

How much does the Crazy OOSH Bootcamp workshop cost?

The cost  is organised into THREE  possible levels:

Level 1: Early-Bird Special (payment 8 weeks before Bootcamp date)……………….$140  per person per workshop 

Level 2:  Special (payment 6 weeks before Bootcamp date)……………………………..$150  per person per workshop

Level 3: Normal Price (payment on date of  Bootcamp)…………………………………..$175  per person per workshop

If a centre is sending multiple staff to a Bootcamp workshop or would like to attend all workshops, then discounts can be applied. Please contact us to discuss workshop discounts. The centre who organises the PL session will have the staff at the presenting centre attend the PL workshop for FREE. Staff from other centres will need to pay the normal registration fee.

Please note that all registrations must be paid in full six weeks prior to attending the workshop.

What does the price include?

The price of the Bootcamp includes

(1) 3 hours……10am – 1pm of hands-on science training

(2) A “Crazy Tool Kit”, worth $30, $40 OR $80.   This kit is packed full of take-home supplies and a

              comprehensive activity guide that you can use with your students immediately.

(3) 20% OFF  our subscription teacher training e-learning course. This course is 12 months

               access to HD videos, worksheets of many science experiments that not only show you

              how to conduct them BUT also the science behind it, management tips and tricks and

            more. A unique code for each ticket will be given for each person attending the worklshop. 

(4) Plenty of exciting surprises to energise you, your staff and eventually infect your kids with the

         wonder of science.

Can I use a purchase order to pay for my registration?

We do accept purchase orders to hold your space at the workshop. However, the purchase order must be paid in full at least six weeks prior to the workshop to guarantee your registration.

What if I need to cancel?

We understand that you may need to cancel your reservation before the day. As long as you call or email to cancel up to six weeks before the workshop, you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made after the six-week mark will be eligible for a 50% refund.

Are there limited spaces?

Unfortunately, yes. To maintain the personal touch and enhance the hands-on atmosphere we do have to limit numbers. We recommend getting in early as like our workshops, spaces do go quickly (especially when whole centres or organisations book).
